Linslade School Library
We have recently made a significant investment to our School Library and have created a relaxed comfortable space for our students. The library is available to students during all break times.
We have also introduced the use of Reading Cloud. The system allows pupils and parents to view the school catalogue online, for students to write book reviews and look for research material.
Students are expected to carry a reading book during the school day and attend regular library/reading lessons with support for students who may need help picking something new or more challenging to read. There are a selection of magazines which are updated weekly available and titles include ‘The Week’ and ‘Kids National Geographic.
To ensure that we keep the library well stocked and up to date the school runs four Scholastic Book Fairs annually. This encourages the children to help choose new books, often selecting books that they have not noticed before and most importantly assists us in keeping reading fun and current. We also have a Keys Stage 3 only reading section.
The library regularly has competitions running with prizes awarded in assemblies during the school terms. During World Book Day 2019, the library is transformed into a themed room with students and staff encouraged to dress as their favourite book characters. Last year the library had a Harry Potter theme. We were fortunate that we had the local Book Illustrator Ben Cort volunteer to talk to the children about his career in publishing and his successful “Aliens Wear Underpants” books.
The theme for 2020 will be Roald Dahl stories.
The school has also hosted author’s visits with our most recent Author – Peter J Murray. Peter ran assemblies, workshops and sold copies of his books during this visit. Please see his blog to see what he had to say about Linslade School - http://peterjmurray.co.uk/wordpress/2019/12/back-down-bedford-way/
Most importantly, we want to keep our students engaged with reading as much as we can.

All books listed are stocked in the library and are updated after each Book Fair.
